Soundgarden “King animal”

Después de su reunión en 2011 y tras dieciséis  años sin lanzar álbum de estudio, Soundgarden reaparecen con King Animal.

Las expectativas eran muy altas, y el resultado, después de seis escuchas, todavía no sé si me gusta mucho o poco…

El disco empieza de forma atronadora con “Been away too long”, con un sonido contundente y algo más añejo, casi más cercano a discos como “Louder” o “Badmotorfinger”. Le sigue “Non-State Actor”, tema con riff vertiginoso y llamativo; seguidamente Irrumpe el tercer corte “By crooked steps”, de riff machacón y melodía lineal. Para mí este es uno de los temas más destacadas del cd.

A partir de este punto, el disco entra en una fase de composiciones densas, más cercana al “superunknown”. Temas como “A thousand days before” y “Blood on the valley floor” o “bones of birds” son esencialmente pesados, más en la línea depresiva-deprimente del grunge de los noventa, muy del estilo  de “feell on black days” o “mailman”.

El sexto y el séptimo tema “Bones of birds” y “Taree”, son claramente del estilo inconfundible del Cornell de la etapa que corresponde a su disco debut “Euphoria morning”. Ambos temas contienen estrofas de melodías rebuscadas y complejas.

El tema acústico  “Black Saturday”  en el que la voz principal aparece doblada en las estrofas, es una canción  poco acertado para mi gusto y “Halfway there”, mas en la onda Cornell, es un tema a medio tiempo de gran calidad compositiva.

Soundgarden "king animal" 

After their meeting in 2011, and after sixteen years without launching studio album, Animal King Soundgarden reappear.
Expectations were very high, and the result, after six tracks, still do not know if I like it much or little ...
The album starts with a thunderous "Been Away Too Long", sounding more forceful and stale, almost closer to albums like "Louder" or "Badmotorfinger". He continues "Non-State Actor", subject to rapid and striking riff, then bursts the third cut "By crooked steps", insistent riff and melody line. For me this is one of the most prominent of the cd.
From this point, the disc enters dense phase compositions, closer to "Superunknown". Tracks like "A Thousand Days before" and "Blood on the valley floor" or "bones of birds" are essentially heavy, more in line depressing depressive-nineties grunge, style very "feell on black days" or "mailman".
The sixth and seventh theme "Bones of birds" and "Taree" are clearly the unmistakable style of the Cornell stage corresponding to their debut album "Euphoria Morning". Both topics contain stanzas of gimmicky and complex melodies.
The acoustic song "Black Saturday" in which appears bent lead vocals in the verses, is a song for my taste unwise and "Halfway there", more in the vein Cornell, is a part-time issue of compositional quality.
